If you are intending to undergo eye surgery, there are certain things that you should expect. First of all, not all eye surgeries go the way they intended as nobody is perfect and secondly, even if it seems fine at first, the problem may not manifest itself until years to come. Whilst this may scare you off eye surgery, it should be noted that the overwhelming majority of patients have had positive experiences and in virtually all cases, have given consent and known what complications they were expecting.

One of the common eye surgery complications that you can expect after surgery is dry eye. This doesn’t just apply for laser based surgeries but for most other surgeries as well, such as cataract surgery. This usually resolves itself over time and your doctor should have given you artificial tears and advised you to drink plenty of water and eat foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, such as fish, walnuts and flaxseeds, in order to help reduce the symptoms of dry eyes, itching, burning and general ocular discomfort.

There are also long term consequences stemming from surgery of the eye, since any kind of surgery would have physically altered the normal functioning of the eye, prior to surgery. In the case of LASIK surgery, there is a low chance of the patient developing glaucoma, an even lower chance for cataracts, retinal detachment and also vision loss. In order to minimize these catastrophes from occurring, it is recommend that you continue to consult with your doctor regularly every week for at least 6 months after the surgery to see how well your eye is healing or adapting to your new found vision.

Laser eye surgeries, especially LASIK, tend to have quite a few eye surgery complications that some others do not have. For example, another notable LASIK risk is flap complications. In other words, the flap cut out by the surgeon during the procedure could have been badly placed back on the cornea or become infected which could result in either keraectasia or diffuse lamellar keratitis. Both of these conditions can become fairly serious and once again, there is a need to follow up with your doctor, and also your eye surgeon, to see how well your eyes are healing.

These are just some of the eye surgery complications that you can expect from a typical surgery. It isn’t particularly encouraging to someone wishing to have surgery on their eyes but if you are informed about such things, then you will know how to react to these situations more appropriately and be able to treat or avoid these complications which could make or break your vision.

First of all, LASIK (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) corrective eye surgery is a very well known procedure having been performed by many eye surgeons around the world. The actual method behind LASIK surgery is this:

1. A central portion of the outer eye is cut out into a flap

2. A laser is fired into the eye

3. The surgeon replaces the flap back to its original location

Prior to the LASIK corrective eye surgery, the eye surgeon would apply a retainer like tool to hold your eyelids open. Then, the surgeon would instil some eye drops into your eye in order to numb eyes, to prevent your eyes from getting dry and to act as an antibiotic. Once this preparation is complete, the eye surgeon would then proceed to cut open the flap using a microkeratome. You should feel no pain during this step as the numbing drops should have already taken effect. At the very worst, you will feel a pressure being placed onto your eye. After this, the surgeon carefully opens up the flap and at this point, your vision will become very blurry. The eye surgeon or the assistant will turn on the laser, which will reshape the outer surface of your eye. At this point, you will see flashing lights, or blurs, and you will hear a snapping sound. This is very fast and takes less than 1 minute to do. Once the laser eye surgery is complete, the surgeon will rewet, smoothen the eye and also replace the flap back onto the eye.

Throughout the LASIK corrective eye surgery, the eye surgeon will regularly add drops into your eye so that you will not be uncomfortable. As a matter of fact, you should feel any physical discomfort throughout the surgery. Once that is all done, the surgeon will give you a plastic bandage to cover the operated eyes so that it is protected from infection, being rubbed by you and also to allow your eyes to heal.

You should not engage in any physical activity for at least 4 weeks after LASIK corrective eye surgery. You should not expose your eyes to water, like in hot tubs, swimming in pools, the beach, the spa and so on for 1 to 2 months after surgery. You should also not apply any kind of lotions or creams near your eyes for about 2 weeks after the surgery. All in all, you should continue to use medications given to you by doctor after the surgery and to regularly consult with your doctor to monitor the progress of your eyes and your vision. If the worse comes to worst, as in recurring symptoms of dry eyes, visual disturbances such as glare and sensitivity to light, or infections, you should go to your surgeon immediately to see if you can get an enhancement surgery or antibiotics to treat the infection.Best eye surgery in Abu Dhabi Medical Directory – Find the best eye surgery in Abu Dhabi with reviews, cost, prices, contact details & telephone numbers. UAE most comprehensive listing of healthcare professionals including doctors, specialists, GP's, hospitals, healthcare, pharmacies, laboratories, nursing homes, patient support and pharmaceutical companies in United Arab Emirates. Medical Clinics, also known as outpatient clinics, or ambulatory care clinics, are health care facilities that specialize in non-life threatening outpatient treatment. While they can either be publicly or privately owned, they typically provide the majority of healthcare needs for their communities. Hospitals can cover a wide range of illness and ailments. They also have the technological capabilities and onsite staff to specialize in the most current treatments and diagnoses. However, hospitals are significant budget facilities and are more prone to encourage overnight stays. Outpatient clinics are more prone to promoting a quick diagnosis and medical treatment. With virtually the same level of expertise on staff and access to the same state-of-the-art medical equipment, outpatient clinics are more likely to have you treated and on your way in far less time. While medical clinics do offer many of the same benefits as hospitals, with less fuss, there are a few other factors to consider when making your decision to seek treatment in these health care facilities. The biggest factor to consider is perhaps the hours of the operation. Often, outpatient clinics are only open during regular business hours. As a result, if you are in need of urgent care outside of those hours of operation you will need to seek health care elsewhere. However, should you find yourself in need of urgent care during their hours of service, it may be worth it to seek medical treatment there instead of a hospital where the wait could cost unnecessary time.
